There’s something about those first few days with a newborn that feels like a time warp—the sleepy snuggles, the hazy afternoons, the quiet realization that life just changed forever. That’s the good stuff. We recently spent a late afternoon with the Christman family, documenting their family dynamic as they welcomed baby Tommy. This in-home newborn session was all about warmth, connection, and the little moments and details that make these early days unforgettable.

The Christmans’ home was the perfect spot for their session—soft afternoon light spilling through the windows, cozy corners filled with love, and a relaxed energy that let everyone just be. As natural light photographers, we plan every session around making the most of the available light, choosing the right time of day and spaces in the home to create the warm, moody tones we love.
It’s all about working with what’s there, enhancing the real-life magic instead of forcing it.
And let’s be honest—keeping things relaxed is key when you’ve got a newborn (and a preschooler) in the mix. We take our time, move at the family’s pace, and let the moments unfold naturally. No unnatural poses, no stress—just real, raw connection.

Matt and Melissa are now officially a party of four, and you could feel the love every second of this session. They were completely wrapped up in Tommy, memorizing every tiny feature, soaking in the newness. Their daughter, Isla, was equally smitten with her baby brother. She showered him with kisses, snuggles, and plenty of doting attention, making it clear that she is already the best big sister. We made sure to engage Isla throughout the session, ensuring she felt included in every step of the process. Between room changes and baby feedings, we chatted about family life, the joys (and adjustments) of a new baby, and how Isla has stepped into her new role as a big sister.

The Christmans went with neutral, comfy outfits with bold pops of blue and gold—perfect for the warm, moody hues that made this session feel extra rich and inviting. Our lifestyle approach meant no super stylized props or heavy posing—just natural interactions and love. And Tommy? An absolute scene-stealer with that full head of dark hair sticking up in every direction. We couldn’t get over it, and honestly, neither could his parents.

The best part of newborn photography for us are capturing the moments you’ll never get back. Tiny fingers gripping mom’s hand. The way dad cradles his newborn son like he’s the most precious thing in the world (because, duh, he is). A big sister gazing at her baby brother, already smitten. These are the moments that fade too fast, and that’s exactly why we do what we do.
This in-home newborn session in Lawrenceburg, IN, was a reminder of why we love photographing families in their own space—where life happens, where love is felt in every corner and with every touch. The Christmans now have these memories frozen in time, and we’re so honored to have been a part of it.
Don't worry if you don't know exactly what you want—that's what we're here for!
