We’re here for family sessions that are prompt and activity-driven rather than just pose after pose after pose—this was exactly the case for Chris and Laura’s fall family session in Batesville, IN. Wanting a location that felt personal, they chose two private properties within their family, each offering a different yet equally beautiful backdrop. One had open fields with bright white fencing, while the other was nestled in the woods, painted with autumn color. With clear skies and crisp fall air, the conditions were perfect for a relaxed and joy-filled evening at sunset.

From the start, it was clear that this session would be all about fun. Chris and Laura’s three kids—Lindsey and her twin brothers, Grant and Tyler—were full of energy, running circles around their parents, laughing, and turning the session into a playful adventure. We leaned into their excitement, encouraging movement and interaction to capture their personalities in an authentic way. Chris and Laura were completely on board, trusting our creative direction and letting their kids simply be themselves.

The family’s outfit choices were a perfect mix of muted blues and neutrals, complementing the bold fall foliage without overpowering it. They struck a balance between coordination and individuality—Lindsey wore a dress with blue hues, and the twins rocked similar shirts in different shades. This thoughtful approach to styling created a visually harmonious look while keeping things natural and effortless, which is always ideal for outdoor sessions.

Some of the most memorable images came from the small, personal details woven into the session. Lindsey brought her soccer cleats, while the twins proudly toted their golf clubs, adding a fun, personal touch that highlighted their individual interests. But perhaps the biggest hit of the evening was the “run under the blanket” game—an instant favorite for the kids, who sprinted back and forth with boundless excitement while their parents watched with huge smiles. It was one of those moments that felt less like posing and more like making a core memory. Another highlight? Tyler’s infectious energy and endless curiosity about our camera—he fully embraced the spotlight, bringing an extra dose of personality to every shot.

We believe family sessions should feel natural, focusing on real connections rather than rigid posing. Kids won’t always do what you expect—but that’s part of the magic. Their quirks, their energy, and their genuine interactions make each session unique. For Chris and Laura’s family, this session was all about embracing the moment, celebrating their love, and capturing memories they’ll cherish for years to come.

Looking back at this sunset family session in Batesville, we’re reminded of why we love photographing families—the laughter, the chaos, the in-between moments that showcase the heart of a family’s story. These are the images that stand the test of time, preserving not just how a family looked, but how they felt and connected in that season of life.
